Quadrant 4 houses the behaviors, feelings, and motivations that are known neither to self nor to others. These four quadrants represent the whole person in relationship to other people. The size of the quadrants increases and decreases accordingly as the relationship changes. For instance, as disclosure takes place, the Hidden quadrant decreases while the Open quadrant increases. As Quadrant 2 becomes known to an individual because of feedback from others, the Open quadrant grows and the Blind quadrant decreases. Each encounter with others moves quadrant lines within the window, but the window continues to contain all four quadrants. The following diagram illustrates the shifting of boundaries as a relationship is developed.
